Unlike some samplers which give you a random chunk of the song, great care has been taken to trim the music so you experience the whole song in "Readers Digest condensed" form. First priority has been given to strong album cuts not appearing on compilations.
Parasite Spank: Don't ask for mp3's. Don't ask me to send you stuff. If you want the full version, buy it like I did. That's why they're edited.
My all-time favorite recording is by a guy called Ken Nordine. I first heard Ken Nordine in the middle of the night. I'd gone to bed with the radio on in the background. As I was sleeping I became aware of this voice, and as I woke up, I heard this strange....well, You'll hear the same thing I did if you listen to the RealAudio clip below, What Time Is It. If you're a late night kind of person like I am, there's no replacement for Ken Nordine. A couple years later I was going through the used album bins and I saw an unusual album cover with no title. I pulled it out, and sure enough, there was that name, Ken Nordine. I snagged that treasure; it's been my favorite album for years. That compilation of Ken's best, a two LP set called How Are Things In Your Town is long out print, as are the original "Word Jazz" albums that Ken recorded in the late 1950's. But a few years ago Rhino pulled some of Ken's best stuff into a collection called The Best of Word Jazz, Vol. 1. What Time Is It is included. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
